Golf in itself is truly a unique game. For every different game you need a different golf club and a totally different strategy or skill. During any round a golfer is allowed to carry up to fourteen clubs in his bags. Generally, a typical set of clubs may consist of 3 woods (1 driver and 2 fairway woods); golf chipping irons 3 to 9, three wedges and a putter. Unlike any other game, golf is the only game in which the playing field changes from course to course. This is the game you can play with others and alone too.
Irons For Chipping
In short game or chipping generally the club used is the irons. Irons (now a days woods also) are so called because their club head are made up of metal. Almost all the irons have grooved club faces with thin club heads. Among the variety of golf clubs irons are available the final take is always yours. Most commonly irons are used for shorter shots than woods. Irons having the highest loft than the 9- iron are called wedges.
With the variety of golf irons that are available, no wonder that golfers especially beginners face a lot of difficulty in what they should buy. The selection of correct irons is very much important for the middle portion of the game because a proper golf club can help you to reach the green in fewer strokes.
We can broadly classify all the irons into three main categories. These are as follows –
- Long Irons – Long irons golf clubs are the 3- and 4- irons. Some more experienced golfers can go for a 2-iron and even a 1-iron. These irons have longer shaft than all other types of irons to provide more distance. These are generally used to get the ball closer to green so that thereafter you can use a short iron for a more accurate shot. Its range usually lies between 170 to 190 yards.
- Mid Irons – 5- irons are the dividing irons between the mid and long irons. Other mid irons include the 6-irons and 7-irons. Its range generally lies between 120 to 170 yards. The mid irons have less long shaft compared to long irons but have more loft.
- Short Irons – The short irons consisting of iron clubs 8-, 9-, pitching wedges and sand wedges. The short irons have short shaft but can provide more loft in the ball’s flight which allow the player to land the ball close to the target. Short irons are used for hitting targets that are 145 yards or less.
You can find a lot of golf chipping clubs in the markets, so choose the one which is best suited to you. Then start practicing with it to improve your chipping skills.
