Driving is very important in golf. There is no need for long putts and chipping if you have a good drive. You need to give length and more accuracy to your drive.

Proper grip is very important in driving. If your grip on the drive is too tight, then it is uncomfortable to make an accurate shot. In case your grip is loose, then your club might fly with your golf ball. Your less dominant hand, the one not used for writing is a strong factor. Place the club properly in your palm. The grip should be diagonal to your less dominant hand.

Do not grip the club tightly or loosely by the active hand. Let it be loose and relaxed. If you put some gap between your first and second finger, it will give you more power and proper angel to the shot. This will make your drive longer and more accurate.

Make sure your hands are linked and try sticking out thumb of your less dominant hand. Cover it with the palm of your dominant hand. This will make the grip of your hands secure you shot will also be good this way as your less dominant hand gets support from your dominant hand.

Align your club’s face to the direction you want your ball to go. Align your feet with your club and stay parallel as you prepare your drive. Your shoulders and hands should also point in the same direction as your club.

After you align your shots, put your feet together and point them towards the ball. Later move your left foot outward and repeat with the right foot. Do this till you are comfortable and keep in mind that your feet should not be more than shoulder width apart.

You need to practice your swing correctly. Keep your shoulders, feet and hands relaxed. Try swinging the club back and forth to get a proper rhythm and great a swing with a flow. Do not sacrifice your accuracy just to bring power to your shot. There should be a balance between the two.

To Get More Distance For The Swing:

  • Coil your upper body properly
  • Feet and base should be rock solid and stay intact with lower body
  • Left knee must turn past the golf ball as you coil your upper body
  • Arms must be extended to their full length to achieve maximum swing

Tee your ball higher as it will help you in two things. You will get better angle on your launch as your clubface will hit your ball at lower place. It will also reduce friction from too much backspin from the ball.

Golf Driving Tips:

  • Do not swing too hard
  • Light grip pressure as it will allow natural rotation of club and give better expansion to the target
  • Have a proper swing path for and begin a good extension to the target
  • Proper ball positioning is necessary to launch the ball properly on the up and out swing
  • Tee height should be fairly high for you to sweep the ball off the tee
  • Have a target even while you practice and hit extra tee shots on the holes that give you trouble
  • Pick that side of the tee that allows the best angel
  • Slice is easy to handle as it is short and because of the loft
