Golf is said to be a low activity game that’s meant to be played by senior citizens. However, if you look at the rate at which golfers suffer from injuries, you’d start thinking whether it’s really a laid back game.

Injuries related to golf generally tend to be constant and arise from the overuse of a broken or weal area of the body. The type of traumatic injuries due to collisions is not typical as golf is not a contact sport. It’s now common for both professional as well as amateur golfers to build up some kind of specific injury sooner or later in their career. Some of the most common golf injuries are

Pain in the lower back is the most common golf related injury in all the injuries associated with this game. Golfers who play this game for recreation and only at irregular intervals can suffer from back pain as an unusual strain is placed on their back muscles due to the motion of the golf swing. This is because a swing of a recreational golfer is not that finely honed as the swing of a more skilled golfer.

Professional golfers can even experience back problems. This problem became more prominent since the early 90’s when many professional golfers aimed to push the golf ball further down the fairway. Prior to this, golfers focused on accuracy and the golf swing was generally slower and more rhythmic. Now in the era of what’s known as power golf, several golfers have adopted a greater shoulder turn and less turning of their hips. Though this swing produces a faster swing, it comes at the cost of greater stress on shoulder and back muscles.

You can see that most golf injuries are a result of the overuse of muscles. Golf classic swing action is one golf action that has affected nearly every golfer in the world. A major reason for almost all injuries is the unconventional and unnatural coiling and release of body muscles during golf swing actions. Several golfers also get pain in their bodies due to lack of fitness, poor swing mechanics, and insufficient rest.

It’s almost mandatory to follow all golf exercises and prevention techniques to avoid the risk of long term injuries, since it’s been noted that recurring strain and overworked muscles are the main causes of common golf injuries. All golfers are advised and suggested to warm up and stretch their muscles properly prior to undergoing any type of strenuous and long practice hours.

Wrists and hands are another part of the body that can be injured in golf as a shock is generated when the golf swing concludes in an impact with the ball and the golf club. The force of impact can be minimized by properly executing the swing. Wrist injuries can also occur due to extreme hand motion during the down and back swing. As per some golfer, a more powerful stroke can be produced by flexing the wrists during both phases of the swing. Rather, the stroke becomes less powerful and results in an inflammation in over used tendons and ligaments of the wrists.

Golf injuries cannot be completely avoided, though professionals follow their fitness regime such as glue for class performance during their game. However, there are treatments for all types of golf injuries available now. Ice stretch heat routine that’s advised by therapists and professional golf trainers are incorporated in most of the treatments. In spite of this, pain relief sprays, inflammatory drugs, instruments to cushion muscles, and other treatments are also taken up for getting rid of instant pain.
