What is a Golf Pull Slice?
A pull slice shot in golf is the shot in which the ball at first starts out going to the left of the target (for right-handed golfers) and then slices to the right side. It is just opposite of what golf push slice is? A slice shot occurs due to the club face hitting the ball in an outside to in path.
What causes Golf Pull Slice?
Both pull and push shot are of the same family i.e. these both shots are caused by improper swing techniques. The steep angle along with the outside to inside target line path puts slice spin on the ball. Most of the time a golf pull slice is caused by the open clubface at the impact. Another factor can be the lower loft on the club. If your swing action is more pronounced then you will impart more sidespin on the ball which ultimately results in slicing the ball.
Diagnosing the golf pull slice
Some of the golf instructor will give you quick tips to diagnose the cause of pull slice:
- Grip – Generally the grip has nothing to do with a pull slice. But sometime an improper grip can let the golfer to lift their right arm too high and tense at the address which ultimately results in slice shot.
- Set-up – Check that you are not aiming too far left or your shoulders are not pointing too far left. Make sure that your feet, hips and shoulders are properly aligned to the target line.
- Ball Position – You need to take a look that the ball is too far forward in your stance.
- Back swing – During the backswing, is your club going outside the target line? The club should always be over the shoulder not over your head and the swing motion should be smooth.
- Down swing – At the transition, your arms are pushing away from your body. During the downswing make sure that your head doesn’t move toward the target until impact.
The golf pull slice shot is difficult to control but you can certainly try some of the drills to cure your pull slice. If you follow the correct basics with proficient practice then your pull slice shot will be out of your game.
