There are so many brands of golf irons in the market who are offering irons with different designs to suit the need of individual golfers. It is your preference and style of playing and handicap that should be taken into consideration while selecting the irons. The golf shafts for irons are also crucial factor that you need to choose so that the irons effectively improve your game. Here, we will be discussing different aspects of the golf shafts for irons that you need to be careful about while choosing golf irons.

The length – Golf club length is very important factor for choosing the golf clubs. The length of the club mainly depends on the length of shaft and hence it is shaft length that is considered when we are talking about the golf club sizing. The length of the golf shafts for irons is different for each numbered iron. The lowest numbered iron i.e. 1-Iron is the longest iron in the set. The 1-Iron in the men’s golf iron set is about 39.5” long. The size of the shaft decreases by an inch as the number of the iron increases. The shortest numbered iron is the 9-Iron but the wedges are even shorter than 9-Iron.

The material – There are mainly two types of golf shafts for irons – one is made with steel and the other is made with carbon fiber that is also known as graphite. The golf shafts for irons that are made with steel are more durable and less expensive. But these irons are stiffer and heavier and if you are new to the game of golf or if you have low swing speed then it might be difficult to use the steel shaft. One the other hand the graphite shafts are more flexed and lighter in weight. Moreover you get wide options of flex when you are opting for graphite golf irons.

The flex – The flex of the shaft is the most important aspect when you are choosing the golf shafts for irons. There are mainly five different categories of flex – extra stiff, stiff, regular, senior, and ladies. Which flex is right for you is decided on the basis of your swing speed. If your swing speed is more than 105 mph you should use extra stiff shaft, if your swing speed is somewhere between 90 to 105, you should use a stiff shaft, if you swing at a speed between 80 to 95 mph you should have a regular shaft, if your swing speed is between 70 to 85 you must use a senior flex and if your speed is less than 70 mph then you should go for a ladies flex.
