As a golfer, it is your duty to keep your wedges and Putters clean. Dirty clubs affect players’ consistency and score. There are a number of ways in which you can clean your golf clubs. You may spend some money on golf club cleaning kits available at most of the golf pro shops.
Things to clean the golf clubs
You will need a few supplies to clean your Golf Clubs. Either you can buy a cleaning kit or you can assemble one at your house. If you buy a cleaning kit there will be solutions you can use to clean all the parts of your club. Follow all the directions on the cleaning kit while you clean your golf clubs. If you are assembling, you will need:
- Dish detergent
- Small bristled scrub brush or a toothbrush
- Bucket /tub
- Towel
Run water in the container
You can clean one club or a bag full at a time. Fill the bucket or the container with about 3 inches of luke warm water. Take care to see that the water is not very scalding. If you use hot water, it can cause injury to the clubs.
After running the water, you should add a couple of squirts of dish detergent or mild soap. Make a good lather and then drop the head of your golf clubs into the water. Lean the shafts against the edge of the container to prop it up and make sure that only the club head is submerged and not the shaft. In case the water is more it is better to drain some out quickly.
Let your clubs soak
Leave the club head in water for about five minutes so that all the dirt and debris loosens out. In case your club is delicate and made of some varieties of wood that cannot tolerate soaking, skip this step. You may give your club a quick dunk.
Scrub the club head
After you have set the club in for a few minutes, scrub the remaining grit off it. You can use a soft small brush or a toothbrush. You can also use a soft kitchen brush but avoid using any thing too coarse that may scratch your club. Clean all the sides of your club head while you scrub it down. In case you notice any rust, you can give a good rub down with a steel wool pad.
Rinse the club
You can rinse your club very easily by running a hose or the sink faucet over it. Sprayer hose on the sink is good for this. A normal tap will also do fine but you need to take care to see hat only the club head is under it. Avoid other parts of the club getting wet or soapy as you rinse.
Drying the club and wiping the shaft
After rinsing the club head, dry it with a towel or a clean rag. You can use the damp towel to wipe the shaft and the ferrule.
Cleaning the grip of your golf club
The grip need not be submerged in water for cleaning. Soaking it in water may damage it. The grip needs cleaning as it absorbs oils and other things as you hold it. To clean the grip you need to fill the bucket or sink with luke warm water. Add a drop of dish wash to it stir up the water. Dip a clean cloth in it and wring it so that it is just damp enough but not dripping.
Wipe the grip with this damp cloth and scrub any dirt with a soft tooth brush u used for the club heads.
To avoid the club cleaning time, you can just wipe it down with a damp cloth after each use. You can then clean the clubs after a couple of uses.
