Long PuttersGolfers now-a-days have a range of putter choices in their favorite sports equipment stores. They must thank the companies who are dedicatedly manufacturing sports accessories to get the golfers hooked to them. Whether is a simple art of letting the ball fly in the long swing or roll comfortably well on the green and sink in the hole, what matters is the right choice of equipment for the right impact. That is one of the reasons why putting style in golf is the most researched and sought after. There are a great range of putters that are available to the golfer: short putters, belly putters, conventional putters and long putters.

What are long putters?

Many golfers argue that greens are becoming faster, well-maintained and therefore, there is a need to be extremely precise. Conventional putters do not offer any help as there is too much dependence on how you move the hands. As a result, more and more golfers are changing the way they hold their putters. Unconventional grips in golf were a common sight and if a golfer becomes successful in one, then he/she would soon become a trend-setter. Same can be said about the variety of putters used in golf. Unconventional putters are commonly being used that are seen changing the dynamics of the game. Long putters and belly putters are common sights today.

Merits of long putters

Compared to the conventional putters, long putters have longer shafts so that the putting stroke resembles a true swinging pendulum and there is very little movement of the wrists. One of the merits of long putters is that as the wrist movements are minimized, there is very little affect of sudden movements or hinging of wrists on the putting stroke. Long putters are popular with those who feel that their abnormal wrist movements are curtailing them to perform well in putting. People suffering from clumsy wrist movements and jerks in their wrists are greatly benefited as a result of long putters. In fact, it is jokingly said that if a golfer can putt well even with a long putter, the he/she better take up tennis as this putter gives the freedom to have the least wrist action. Not only that, long putters put less stress on the backs of the golfers, In fact, they let the golfer be as erect as possible and yet hit the ball comfortably enough.

Long putters are effective in most of the cases of putting and one honestly gets to sink the ball pretty fairly well. Howvere, the shaft of the putter is too long and so there is less feel of the distance and the right feedback! This when compared with conventional putters, golfers would realize that judgment in putting style is more reliable with conventional putters or belly putters than the long putters.

How to use long putters?

While using long putters, try holding the top of the grip against the sternum with the left hand, and hold the remaining top portion of the club with the right hand. Grip the club correctly and then adjust your feet, keeping the ball at the centre. Then keep your upper body totally steady and allow the chest to be the fulcrum of the swinging pendulum motion that you are going to proceed with in a stroke. If you feel that the long putter limits the feel of the distance of the putt, then it is advisable to keep practicing so that you are able to successfully manage the merits of the long putter and merge practice with it.
