Single Golf Irons

Whether you are choosing a golf iron set or single golf irons for your golf club set, you need to be very careful. There are different types of golf irons and so many factors to review before you can select the right golf iron. Irons are used for playing different shots in the game of golf and hence there are different types of irons and wedges. A standard golf iron set contains nine numbered irons and four wedges. So if are you looking for single golf irons, you have to first make sure what type of iron you actually need. If you need a single golf iron, for playing long distance shots to the green then the driving iron or long irons should be your choice. But if you’re looking for irons with which you can play precision shots better then you should look for the short irons and you should use the wedges for the hazards. After you have decided what are the types of the single golf irons that you need start looking for other qualities of the golf irons to choose the appropriate iron.

While choosing the single golf irons the first thing that you need to consider is the type of the golf iron head. There are two types of designs that are used for making golf iron heads – the cavity back and the muscle back. The cavity back irons have blade like iron head that come with narrow sweet spot, thin top line and perimeter weighing. In these irons the centre of gravity of the head lies just behind the sweet spot. These irons are excellent if you consider the precision and accuracy of the shot. If you have a fairly good handicap, pro like swing speed and great control over the swing you can choose these irons to improve the quality of the shots you play. But if you are a novice and have below average swing speed and low handicap, the muscle back irons are best suited for your game. The muscle back irons have a bulge at the back of the club face that helps add a boost to the shot and gives you a fair carry even with a low swing speed. Moreover, these irons have larger sweet spot and more forgiveness that you’ll hardly make an off centre hit with these irons. The centre of gravity of these irons lies low and deep into the head that makes it easier to launch the ball higher.

The next thing that you need to consider is the type of the golf iron shaft that you are going to buy. You can either buy the single golf irons with steel shaft or the graphite shaft that are made with composite carbon fibers. The steel shafts are stiffer and best suited for golfer with excellent swing speed and flawless control. The graphite shafts are light in weight and better suited for golfers with lower handicap. Now you need to consider all these aspects and select the best single golf irons according to your handicap and control over the swing.
